Finally
Finally after WWII a “fresh breath of democracy [ran] through America and opened the way toward a greater ‘diversity’” (Takaki 406). What I found interesting in this passage on page 406 was that it took years and years for a president/a nation to understand that immigrants and different ethnic citizens living in the United States should be protected by the Constitution. I am surprised that no other presidents in US history before Franklin Roosevelt try to outlaw racial discrimination. I believe that finally after seeing racism take on whole other status with the war against Nazicism, it truly generated “a greater awareness of racism at home”. The notion that white superiority was a popular thought should have been disbanded years ago and cruelty fueled by racism should have long ago been discovered and put to an end. I am very thankful that I get to grow up in a world today where in most cases racism is frowned upon on and that equality is not only a right but also a principle by which every person has the ability to follow not alone.

Michelle,
ReplyDeleteI know. Isn't it weird to think how recent some of these things are?
