Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
So this morning, I went the to the MLK march downtown in Spokane and was surprised by the small amount of actual marching we did. The event basically consisted of listening to various speakers and music for a couple hours, and then about 15 minutes of walking through the city, but it turned out to be a good thing, because it was freezing outside. What I found the most interesting at the MLK march was that people of many different cultures were represented. A lady of Native American descent sang an ancient Indian song and played a drum instrument for the whole audience. This is probably most intriguing to me, because I always thought of Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a memorial for the Blacks fighting for civil rights, but it never occurred to me that this day could be used for the civil rights of everyone. Overall, I'm glad I went to this march, because it made me realize how today is a day for every culture and race to stand up against all racism and oppression, and for the people of this earth to celebrate how we are all "created equal". Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
