Senior year in High School I decided to take a course titled Age of Genocide. We studied for a semester topics such as the Holocaust, Rwandan Genocide, and the Cambodian genocide. This class was very interesting as well as depressing at times. Pol pot was brought up in Takaki reading this weekend. (Takaki 469) When we were studying the Cambodian genocide we spent a few weeks getting into the mind of Pol Pot as a communist dictator.
Pol Pot born 1925-1998, served in office as the Khmer Rougee leader and dictator from 1963 to 1981. The Khmer Rougee party over through the cambodian government in 1963 to create a complete agriculture society, removing themselves from the world.Throughout his leadership Pol Pot thought he was only improving the country when he was destroying from within. The Khmer Rougee under Pol Pot are responsible of the execution and killing of about 1.3 million Cambodian People.
Just before 1998 Pol Pot had an interview about his response to the "genocide" in Cambodia.
In this youtube video below is the interview we watched in our Age of Genocide class, I found it very informative and you get an idea of what kind of Dictator Pol Pot was.
