Washington Marriages, then and now

So as many of you know, R74, or Referendum 74, was just voted on and passed recently in Washington, making us one of the first states in the country to allow same-sex marriage.  First off, let me say this... I think that is awesome! Way to go people of Washington, showing the country just how awesome we Washingtonians truly are.

So today I was reading about the Filipinos immigrating to the US mainland and how they were being all sneaky with the white ladies.  There was a part where someone was quoted as saying something about how they couldn't get married in Oregon or California, because he was to marry a white woman.  The quote is on page 342 of Takaki and says "Inermarriage was not permitted in Portland.... [so] we went to Washington where they allowed intermattiages."  Well. There you go.  Here we are again, being all "will-nilly" with our marriages in Washington.  Just like intermarriages were a big controversy at the time, same-sex marriages are a big point of discussion in all of America right now.  There are still many people that believe same-sex marriages shouldn't be allowed anywhere.  You don't have to worry, I am a supporter of same-sex marriage and if I would have voted, would have voted for R74.  But back to the point. Washington it seems, has always been on the "cutting-edge" of marriage allowances, even since the time of Asiatic immigration to the United States!  I'm sure most of you noticed this, but I thought it was very cool, having grown-up in Washington all of my life.

WASHINGTON PRIDE BABY!
