Universal Reason for Racial Actions
While reading today's Takaki sections I found that page 326 was really informative because it states the main reason Filipinos faced "anti-Filipino hate and violence". The first sentence of the second paragraph summarizes it perfectly: "White-nativist reactios against Filipinos were fueled by intensifying economic competition between white workers and Filipinos." That was especially true for the Filipinos because they came near the time of the Great Depression, when jobs were already scarce and competition for whatever was available was extremely difficult. This seems like a reoccurring theme among all immigrant groups, regardless of specific ethnicity. The main reason these different groups of Asian Americans were brought over or immigrated to the United States was to become laborers, yet that's also the reason they must face discrimination and hate crimes. I find that a very interesting point because the immigrants didn't have much of a chance at having a welcoming experience into America.
