MLK Jr. March

I cannot recall doing anything such as a march in my entire life, so this was a real treat. It's actually pretty interesting the way it can make you feel: excited, surprised, encouraged, inspired, hell even a tad nervous. I arrived at the convention center downtown late, and I was only able to hear the last bits and pieces of the speech being given inside the main auditorium, words that were obviously inspiring, if I could only listen to them properly. Regardless, I wanted to march, dammit. I wanted to be the kid who said, "Hell yeah, go Martin Luther King Jr., I've only read things about you, now I'm celebrating you. Kick ass." It was nice to feel attached to the message of equality, rather than read it on paper.

The first thing I saw was obviously the people. Soooo many different people, all different backgrounds, complex identities (wink wink, CRT). It's a nice thing to see, and to think about too. When I was young, I only believed in the white-black racism, because that's really all you are taught in school (at least what I was taught). I never saw any true racism while growing up either, only kids making jokes to each other, especially in High School. I think I tended to stay away from kids who looked down on others in general, so maybe that was why I didn't see much. Anyway, to back off of that tangent and return to the point. After going through this class, I noticed all the different people there from different races, and realized about all the subjugation that has happened in the history of this country, not just African Americans. So, to put it in a non-specific, generalized understated phrase, it was pretty neat. Also, I slipped and fell in front of a bunch of people, while attempting to dance. Anyway, carry on my fellow classfrands.
