Ever since I came to school in the
States, many people have asked me if I am going to stay in the US or if I am
going back to China after I’m don't with school. I came to Montana for high school when I was 15 and
finished high school there. And now I’m at Whitworth studying engineering (like
a typical Asian haha). But honestly I don't know the answer to this question. To
help you understand my situation, I can relate myself to one of the reading in
Takaki.
In the last couple weeks of this
class I learned a lot of Asian American history. On page 56 of Takaki, it
describes the image of America
in Asian people’s eyes: they think America is “a ‘paradise’ where ‘clothing
grew on trees, free to be picked,” and where ‘gold dollars were blossoming on
every bush. They were given descriptions of America as a ‘land of gold’ and a ‘lan
of dreams.’” It is still truth that most Asians think America as a
place to fulfill dreams and to peruse success. My parents sent me to go to school in America rather
than moving here as a family not only because it is not as easy to immigrate as
it was before, but also because the language barrier. Neither of them speaks English,
as a result they felt even harder to be accepted in a strange country. Therefore,
they packed their hopes on me and sent me here. Back to the question, I
honestly don't know if I will stay. I know many of the foreigners once they
came they don't want to leave again. I think for me, the reason why I want to
go back home is because my whole family is still there. However, I think it all
depends on where I get a job and my future significant other. I guess we will see what's
gonna happen.
Jackie,
ReplyDeleteIt is a tough decision. Let's talk sometime.
